Sometimes you just need to pack up the car, grab your dog, and escape somewhere quieter for a few days.

After a busy few months, Disney and I headed to Toowoomba for the ultimate winter reset — think crisp country air, slow mornings, cosy nights, sunset walks, and one of the cutest dog-friendly stays we’ve ever experienced.

If you’re looking for a relaxing dog-friendly getaway in Queensland, Toowoomba honestly makes the perfect little escape.

Our Dog-Friendly Stay in Toowoomba

We stayed in the beautiful suburb of Harlaxton, which ended up being the perfect location. It felt peaceful and tucked away while still being close to cafes, parks, and everything we needed.

The Airbnb itself was one of the cutest places I’ve ever stayed in. It had such a cosy country feel, a huge backyard for Disney to explore, and the comfiest bed that genuinely felt like sleeping on a cloud.

The hosts were also incredibly lovely and made the whole stay feel warm and welcoming from the moment we arrived.

One of my favourite parts of the trip was winding down at night with a hot bath using the epsom salts provided by the hosts. After cold winter walks and fresh country air all day, it was honestly heaven.

Travelling to Toowoomba With Your Dog

Toowoomba is such an easy road trip from Brisbane or the Gold Coast, which makes it ideal for a quick weekend away with your dog.

Disney travelled comfortably in her favourite pink harness and car booster seat, which made the drive feel safe and stress-free.

Sunset at Picnic Point

One of the highlights of our trip was heading to Picnic Point for sunset.

The views overlooking the Lockyer Valley were absolutely stunning, especially as the sky started turning soft shades of pink and orange through the trees. It ended up being the perfect place for a slow evening walk before dinner.

If you’re visiting Toowoomba with your dog, I’d definitely recommend adding Picnic Point to your list.

Dog-Friendly Cafes & Places to Eat in Toowoomba

One of the best parts about visiting Toowoomba with your dog is how many relaxed outdoor spaces there are. We loved stopping in at a few dog-friendly spots throughout the weekend, especially after long walks and sunset adventures.

For coffee and breakfast, Ground Up Espresso Bar is such a cute little spot with outdoor seating and a really cosy atmosphere. It’s the perfect place to grab a slow morning coffee with your pup by your side before exploring the town.

If you’re looking for somewhere more relaxed for lunch or dinner, The Southern Hotel has a dog-friendly outdoor area that makes it easy to unwind after a day of exploring. There’s just something about country pubs in winter that feels extra cosy.

Toowoomba in general felt incredibly dog-friendly, and we never felt out of place bringing Disney along for the adventure.

Slow Mornings & Cosy Winter Vibes

One of my favourite things about travelling with Disney is how much slower life feels. Our mornings in Toowoomba quickly settled into a calm little routine of slow coffees on the deck, fresh winter air, backyard exploring, cosy afternoons inside, sunset walks, and warm evening baths after long days out in the cold. It was one of those weekends where time seemed to slow down in the best possible way.

Honestly, it ended up being exactly the kind of nervous-system reset I didn’t realise I needed. There’s something so comforting about escaping somewhere quieter with your dog and being able to properly switch off without feeling rushed. Having a genuinely dog-friendly stay made everything feel even more relaxing because I never had to worry about leaving Disney behind or planning the day around whether she was allowed somewhere.

Final Thoughts

If you’re looking for a cosy dog-friendly getaway in Queensland, Toowoomba is honestly such an underrated gem.

Between the peaceful atmosphere, beautiful sunsets, cosy accommodation, and fresh country air, it ended up being one of those trips that leaves you feeling calmer, lighter, and properly reset.

Disney absolutely loved the huge backyard and all the new places to explore, and I already know we’ll be back for another winter escape soon.
